Artist Robert Stewart

Robert Stewart, the Scottish designer and artist, was a contemporary of Lucienne Day and one of the few designers she admired. A prolific worker, Stewart produced paintings, tapestries, graphics, ceramics and murals but it is his textile designs that have been the most influential, in particular those produced by Liberty. He won many awards and became head of printed textile department at The Glasgow School of Art in 1949 where he worked for 35 years.
