Millie Frood (1900-1988) - Flood Water

A Scottish artist born in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, who played a significant role in revitalizing Glasgow's art scene in the mid-20th century. Early on she showed with RSA and RSW and with the arrival of the painter J D Fergusson and his dancer wife Margaret Morris from France in 1939, and the influx of foreign painters such as Josef Herman and Jankel Adler, Frood became part of a movement which revitalised the arts in the city after World War II.

A Motherwell born artist born in 1900, Millie Frood was part of the movement in the 1940s and 50s which did much to revitalize the arts in Glasgow. However, her recognition for her contributions has been under celebrated in comparison to her male counter parts of the time.

According to those who knew her, Frood was a friendly and colourful figure within her community, and she remains an important but underrecognized figure in Scottish art history.
